Event Details:
Herring island is a 3.2 hectare artificial land located in Melbourne’s Yarra River at South Yarra. It contains indigenous vegetation and provides habitat for nature’s fauna. To get to the island, we will catch a small boat which takes a very short time to get there. You can catch the boat from Como Landing. (in Alexandra Ave., South Yarra - Melway ref 2M C3 or 58 G2). Car parking is at Alexander Avenue. All these details will be more clarified as we do more research into it. We will keep you updated. We anticipate catching the 11am boat to the island. You can bring a cut lunch and a drink. There is toilet and water facilities on the island. Our visit coincides with an art exhibition presented by the contemporary art society of Victoria. We will explore the exhibition and meet the artists. We will do a ‘sculpture trail’ walk to explore the many sculptures on the island. (see attached island map). On our return to land, for those who wish to join us, we will be meeting at Farro's for dinner. Details to follow.
Herring Island Environmental Sculpture Park is an island in the Yarra River between Richmond and South Yarra, with sculptures by Andy Goldsworthy, Judy Collins, John Davis, Robert Bridgewater, Ellen José, Robert Jacks, John Gollings and Jill Peck.
Dinner afterwards at Farro's in Windsor.
